ENJOYING THE MUSTACHES
There is so much that is delightful about the 1954-55 television series Sherlock Holmes;
and the less said about it, the more there will be for you to discover and enjoy.
Fans of the 1952-61 radio series Gunsmoke, however, will key into one of Sherlock Holmes'
practices--beyond its regulars, it has an ensemble of actors who appear repeatedly in its episodes,
playing different characters in each one. One is reminded of John Dehner playing
countless badmen or townsmen, or Virginia Christine portraying various homestead wives
or saloon girls, in Gunsmoke.
Among Sherlock Holmes' regular 'guest stars,' perhaps the greatest revelation
is actor Eugene Deckers. Check out his flamboyant performances
in the episodes 'Shy Ballerina,' 'Impromptu Performance,' and 'Harry Crocker,'
and compare them with his serious portrayal of a murderer in 'Christmas Pudding.'

It is unlikely that any other show made use of fake mustaches, beards, and goatees, as much as Sherlock Holmes.
