HOPALONG ON RADIO
Hoppy's first appearance on radio was on Forecast,
a program whose episodes were essentially auditions.
'Hopalong Cassidy' was the eighth episode
and aired on August 11, 1941.
The Hopalong Cassidy they presented was that of the movies,
not Mulford's novels.
The Hoppy actor does a fair facsimile of William Boyd,
Johnny Nelson and California ride along,
and going to a saloon means "Sarsaparilla all around."
There's no magic here, and even a Zane Grey-ish waterfall
through which the stolen cattle are taken, leads nowhere.
It would take almost seven years
until William Boyd's Hoppy happily arrived on radio.
