THREE HARSH MEN
Stephen McNally appeared in about thirty westerns.
He was the main antagonist in Winchester '73,
supported by somewhat less important baddie Dan Duryea.
McNally actually got the chance to play the heroic goodies
in a few movies...
The Stand at Apache River (1953)
Stage passengers are caught between a bigoted Cavalry martinet
and Apaches recently escaped from a reservation.
Thinkey western dramatizes the debate on the treatment of indigenous people.
Despite the helpless women and bowling pin Indians,
the cast delivers earnest performances.
McNally does better at snarling than fistfighting,
but has no trouble carrying the movie.
